Colombo District United National Party (UNP) legislator T. Maheswaran is shot dead at a Hindu temple in the suburbs of Colombo. According to Police reports, amongst the 12 wounded at the temple is a suspected assailant, a Tamil man from Jaffna. The police claim to have arrested the assailant, who was wounded in retaliatory firing by the personal security officer of the MP.
